Update: Seems the issue was caused by Opera itself. It is fixed in the latest .47 release.

Just today Opera was updated to 85.0.4341.39 and immediately crashed after opening. I could trace the problem back to uBlock origin ad blocker. I am using the offical version from the Opera extensions page. As soon as it gets enabled Opera crashes. I tried rebooting the computer and reinstalling ...

But there is a script that installs the codec, might be necessary to run it after an update.

I use solution 1 and it works fine. I don't think it poses any meaningful security risk. Other KDE distros I tried even had this option enabled by default.

Anyway, to investigate this issue I tried installing Opera on various other Linux Live Isos based on either KDE or Gnome, and they all had H.264 support for Opera out of the box, so something strange seems to be going on here in MX.

Interesting, which one you tried and what version where ...

I started this thread in the software section, but apparently it has been moved to the MX KDE section. I don't know why because this issue does not seem to be related to the KDE desktop environment...(?)
