Re: xz-utils vulnerability - MX23 seems to have dodged that bullet?

Frmald, thanks for the insight on using ldd - I just looked at the dependencies of the openssh-server package, which doesn't seem to require, recommend, or suggest the xz package (didn't happen to have openssh-server installed on this machine to dig deeper.) Totally agree that patching openSSH to ...

xz-utils vulnerability - MX23 seems to have dodged that bullet?

I've been following the recent flurry of news on the critical+ vulnerability in xz-utils, and it seems like the affected version (xz-utils V5.6.0, V5.6.1) hasn't made it into MX23 at this time. Furthermore, it looks like the version of openssh-server that's provided with MX23 doesn't link in xz ...

Re: Reinstalled Python3 wrong, system now "fails to start session" upon user login [Solved]

This happened to me today - thanks for writing up what you encountered and how you fixed it!

I installed wine-staging, and for whatever fine reason it decided to remove the 64-bit python3 and install the i386 version. (I'd call that a packaging bug, honestly...) That in turn, of course, tagged ...

Inkscape 1.2 missing some dependencies

Not sure if this gets posted here, but what the heck:

Inkscape 1.2 won't run its extension manager unless you manually install:

python3-cssselect
python3-numpy
python3-requests
python3-appdirs

Apparently the package doesn't list those as dependencies - I did an apt-get install --install-suggests ...

MX won't boot after adding second M.2 SSD (FIXED)

TL;DNR - If adding a second M.2 SSD to your laptop stops it from booting, it _may_ be because adding the second M.2 moves your graphics card's PCI address, and the files /etc/X11/xorg-bus-id and /etc/X11/xorg.conf are telling X that the card is where it used to be, not where it is now.

Well, I ...

Re: Anybody know why the behavior of UpArrow in Bash is different in MX-21?

Thanks! I'd seen a note about that behavior, but knew I hadn't implemented it myself - didn't occur to me that it would be part of the distro. As always, MX is the best!

Re: Output from MX to a television [Solved]

Started using refurbished 39" 4K TVs as monitors about 10 years back, cheap as could be and amazing to have 8M pixels at your disposal - the ability to show an entire "D" sized engineering drawing on one screen let us stop printing out entire rolls of drawings, the first screens we bought paid for ...

Anybody know why the behavior of UpArrow in Bash is different in MX-21?

Hey-o,

Wondering if anybody knows what's going on with the up-arrow key in Bash.

I'm used to the up-arrow key going through the previously entered commands in Bash, regardless of what's been typed on the line.

In MX-21 installs (but not in MX-19) the up-arrow key only goes through previously ...

Re: Asus Tuf A17 Laptop - Ryzen 7 4800H - almost everything works

An update on how things are going with the Tuf A17 - after using this laptop as my daily driver for two years, I legit wore the keyboard out. I'd managed to wipe the lettering off most of the home row, which didn't bother me - what made me do something about it was when the up and down arrow keys ...

Couldn't get "double-click to shade" working reliably on xfce4 - MX-21

So, I've moved from MX-19 AHS to MX-21 AHS - it was a mostly painless process (a new install on a new M.2 in an existing laptop, so no problems with leftover files causing issues.) Almost everything came up immediately on my 2 year old Asus 17" TUF book (MX-19 required enough poking-at that I wrote ...
