Help needed with JSDP4Linux flatpak

#1 Post by danielson »

Keep getting this message upon opening JSDP4Linux and have no idea as to resolving :

"Please run 'flatpak permission-set background background me.timschneeberger.jdsp4linux yes' and reenable auto-start."

Something i've done in the terminal a few times already, but nothing changes.

- - - - -

(temporarily on MX XFCE).

Hi @danielson

First some questions:

1.) what MX Version are you running? 21.3 or 23.1
2.) whats your flatpak version?

The following is from my MX23.1 AHS w#flatpak updated to latest version

Code: Select all

flatpak --version:
:
Flatpak 1.14.4
In my case it was 'Remmina' that needed 'background' permission when running autostarted in SysTray to survive suspend-mode.

under this conditions, i had to do:

1.) disable 'Remmina' in 'Settings Manager|Session and Startup|Application Autostart' : REBOOT
2.) set/chk permissions by CLI commands

Code: Select all

flatpak permission-list background background
:
Table Object App Permissions Data
background background org.remmina.Remina yes 0x00
:
flatpak permission-show org.remmina.Remmina
Table Object App Permissions Data
background background org.remmina.Remmina no 0x00
:
flatpak permission-set background background org.remmina.Remmina yes
flatpak permission-show org.remmina.Remmina
Table Object App Permissions Data
background background org.remmina.Remmina yes 0x00
:
flatpak permission-reset org.remmina.Remina
flatpak permission-list background background
Table Object App Permissions Data
background background org.remmina.Remmina yes 0x00
:
3.) re-enable 'Remmina' in 'Settings Manager|Session and Startup|Application Autostart' : REBOOT

And finally i cross-checked the permission set with :Flatseal:
Screenshot_2023-11-05_15-01-48.jpg

Lesson learned by myself:

a.) be careful about typos when setting flatpak permissions. you can set permissions even for non existing/installed apps/portals!
in my example 'Remmina' vs 'Remina', though i used correct Capiltalization ;)
b.) its not possible to set and bring in effect a flatpak permission for a running instance

HTH, greetz l0dr3
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Couldn't get MX 23.1 XFCE startup option to work for it.
So, went back to my favorite KDE, MX 23.1
Now it JamesDSP boots up fine, but app window pops up all the time along with that message.

:alien: sorry, i provided this code-snippets just as examples - not as related to JDSP4Linux flatpak :blindfold:

BUT: meanwhile, i installed the flatpak. set the permission as advised, and tried to establish a Autostart-to-Tray.

Result: somethings wrong with that flatpak-release of JamesDSP, though i set and checked that mandatory permission for background, no way to establish a Autostart in background WITHOUT the NAG message, to be more precise, neither by the Apps Setup-Wizard, nor by writing a custom 'Session and Startup' launcher

On the other side, theres a .deb installer on the github releases page ... https://github.com/Audio4Linux/JDSP4Lin ... /tag/2.6.1

https://github.com/Audio4Linux/JDSP4Lin ... inux64.deb

This pipewire variant installs w#o any issues and establishes the Autostart-to-Tray on my MX23.1 XFCE (and: benefit for me - i can avoid all the KDE-Runtime-Bloat, the flatpak introduces to my system  )

Maybe you'll give this version a try, if the flatpak in your KDE environment also fails (what i expect, bc IMO, this setup-wizard failure and the permission-check isn't related to the DE)?

Good Luck, greetz l0dr3

Glad you could find the .deb file!
Always try to install .deb 1st
Was looking for it all over the web!
Name changes don't help.

Uninstalled flatpak version and installed .deb file.
Everything is just fine and dandy now.

You're an ace! :)

(could not figure out the first letter to your name).

@l0dr3

Seeing that FX Sound (superb on Windows) will never make their app for Linux, someone in their forum suggested JamesDSP (JSDP4 as flatpak) as an alternative.

+1 glad that you are liking it too!

Cheers!
