Updates to USB installations

#1 Post by FlyBy »

I plugged my USB in last night, booted as usual, greeted with 83 updates available, this after a short spell in traction following a car crash. Question.. can I apply the updates to the USB installation?
Apologies for posting here if it's the wrong place.

If you mean an mx-live-usb on a flash drive with persistence, then yes. If you mean the the downloaded ISO burned to a flash drive, then no (actually, you can, but it won't stick).

Just to clarify (maybe). even if you don't have persistence set up (that's a special file that is written while you use the system or when you shut it down), if the flashdrive is created with read/write system (not with dd) you should be able to do the updates in memory and then when you want to save all the changes do a remaster -- it puts the changes into the compressed linuxfs file.
