significance of the yellow* next to synaptic package names?

#1 Post by retroD0d0 »

Hi All, General question here.
I noticed many packages in Synaptic have a yellow star next to their name. The tooltip says "this application is supported by the distribution". I am particularly curious because MXPI doesn't make this distinction in its package directory listings. What exactly is the meaning and significance of this star? Should I be wary of packages without it?

Tip, unrelated: On the left there is a status button, click that for an easier overview.

The star means supported by Debian. That is what I found using google.
