SOLVED - Catfish Not Working

Hope I'm posting this in the right place

Running MXLinux 23.6, (xfce) fully updated.

Haven't run Catfish for a while, but when I clicked on the start menu icon, nothing happens.

Here's what I get when I try to run catfish from a terminal

Image

I uninstalled an reinstalled the package, and the same thing is happening.

Is it me? Or is there something else going on?

What version of catfish is this? It should be the current 4.20.1 in MX 23 main, which is not showing python errors for me.

Also, you can copypaste terminal text into a post here, enclosed in code <> tags. No need for screenshots.

g-io-error-quark is often the result of a developing problem with a hard drive. You might want to run GSmartControl to check your drive's health.
It would help if you would post your QuickSysytemInfo as per the forum rules.

Sorry for not getting back sooner - I was out a couple days.

I have the current version of Catfish (4.20.1-0.1~mx23+1) from the repos.

GsmartControl shows none of my HDs are supported (even after refreshing all my devices).

Here is the QSI:

I can do an fsck if necessary. Not familiar with any other available disk health tools.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Are you starting gsmartcontrol with sudo or as root? Or you could try qdiskinfo from the test repo. It asks for sysadmin permission when run from the menu. It's another front end to smartmontools.

When I issued 'sudo gsmartcontrol' command, it worked as expected.

My drives 'passed'. Not sure if there are any specific areas of the reports I shoulld be looking at for more info...

@ OP: Hi, any value on these below that is Not Zero (0) will tell you there's a problem with the HDD, hope this helps, cheers!

Raw Read Error Rate
Reallocated Sector Count
Reallocation Event Count
Current Pending Sector Count

P.S. Thank you, Your post reminded me to refresh the catfish search index database, catfish is working as intended on my main PC with MX Linux 23.6 libretto XFCE!

Thanks for the heads up, I installed "qdiskinfo" from the enabled repo on MX Package Installer and is working very good!

We had a huge electrical storm, which blew out my UPS (or else the UPS battery happened to die at the same time). All my desktops and external devices shut down.

After plugging everything back into a power strip and rebooting my MXLinux box, Catfish started from the start menu as per normal.

One of those mysteries I guess. Will mark this as solved. Thanks to all for your help and input.
