maybe patch the simplescreenrecorder to support ffmpeg7 in trixie before mx25 came out alpha?

Impressive that you're testing an operating system that doesn't exist yet. More impressive, still, that you're testing it on a Devuan machine. Who taught you how to do this?

Does Devuan come with the Debian warranty?
If you break it, you get to keep both pieces

"currently testing MX-25"

No you are not, let's make that very clear. You have added the repos to Devuan, and made your own system of it.

Once MX25 is out and available for testing, and you install that, THEN you are testing MX25.

As far as support, I am moving this over to the chat forum.. by no means is this officially supported nor should it be in the regular forum area.

maybe patch the simplescreenrecorder to support ffmpeg7 in trixie before mx25 came out alpha?
related bugs: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... ug=1093281
related patch: https://github.com/MaartenBaert/ssr/pull/1044
A better question is why didn't Maarten incorporate the patch?

this bug affects multiple audio codecs, not just aac.

thanks for the report.

Hi,

As a side note, this should absolutely be fixed but at the capturing phase it's usually advisable to use use uncompressed WAV and then convert to aac or whatever you want in the final edited and rendered Video, on the fly recording to MP3 or AAC works but neither are great on-the-fly codec choices. WAV will also leave more CPU for the Video quality but will obviously make the initial screencap file larger.. Each to their own of course but any compression should be a downstream thing as much as possible.

I mean, i'm currently testing MX-25 packages in my devuan test environment running in external usb drive. So, i'm curious when MX-25 came alpha sooner. Note, My main device is running MX-21.3 (in my HP laptop) because i'm lazy to upgrading into MX-23.X because of my personal data.
Why devuan? Because i'm currenty experimenting with my respin.

"So, i'm curious when MX-25 came alpha sooner."

When a distro is deemed ready for a testing release by the devs, it'll be released for test release. Not sooner.

Hi,

To clarify just because there are MX-25 Repositories and occasional threads about Packaging for those repositories doesn't mean there is any official MX-25 development release. MX Releases are built a package at a time and the developers can't even begin building, developing and testing MX-25 alpha ISO's until they lay the groundwork with a development Repository. You are free to do as you wish but you're working with alpha development stuff which has numerous missing things and things remaining to be fixed and brought up to date both in MX Repos and Debian Trixie Repos. As said when something is ready for testing I'm sure it will be shouted from the rooftops.

well for what its worth simplescreenrecorder is hosted in the debian repos, which are well beyond alpha stage ast this point. I don't know about devuan's packages but its nice to know about this error, and I can confirm it exists on mx25 currently. I only tried on virtual hardware, but if this persists on real hardware its certainly worth considering a course of action. ssr is very popular, and AVLinux's advice on wav encoding aside, us mere mortals like direct encoding.

thanks again to @TheBSODFan for the report.

I've added the patch to Trixie's SSR 0.4.4-6 and reversioned it as 0.4.4-6mx25. I have successful x86 builds, and now it's trying the two much slower ARM builds. I will upload packages to Google Drive and wormhole.app for personal testing when done, as I'm a bit leery of putting them in MX 25 main, since we don't have a test repo for it yet.

If it fixes the issue without blowing anything else up, Devuan is welcome to copy the patch for a build for their repo.

@TheBSODFan The MX team generally only releases public betas after:

1. the base Debian Stable release is officially out; and
2. when the beta is deemed ready enough for public testing.

So there is still some way to go.

MX Linux only has and supports releases based on Debian Stable base, never Debian Testing/Sid, so the MX25 repos that exist currently (and Stevo has just said there isn't even a MX25 test repo yet) will be in an incomplete, and in-development, state.

okay now solved. thanks.
also, Devuan is actually based on debian and all devuan packages are straight from debian repository with exception of all SystemD component have been removed in devuan repository.

I think the point is that Devuan is not Debian. It is a derivative of the Debian project, much as how MX Linux and Ubuntu are, as well. Debian maintainers make decisions for Debian packages and repositories. Other projects make other decisions. In other words, you don't always get Debian guarantees using an OS that's forked from Debian, as Devuan is. You get the guarantees the distro offers and they aren't always the same thing.

Also, MX and Devuan deal with systemd and its packages differently.

That's why MX is based on Debian, not Devuan.

So, are you saying this solved those encoding problems with ffmpeg 7 for you?
