Light Display Manager
Hello. First off, please forgive me for not sharing hw/sw info. I probably could if needed but it be a picture of output on pc hassle.
After reconfiguring kernel settings which all seemed to work fine, I deleted old kernels,( saving the current and its previous version).
Upon reboot the grub menu opens as usual to choose kernel or edit anything and after trying both current and previous I am met with:
[Failed] to start lighten.service - Light Display Manager. I have tried to fix with no luck.
All I am trying to do is to make the old computer work as efficiently and effectively as possible. After researching I found it best to use systemd.
Meanwhile I can’t boot into my environment.
Please help??!

QSI please. One from a live session is acceptable under the circumstances.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Try this:
CTRL+ALT+F2 to reach the console mode and login with your user and password.
then
once that is installed, make sure to enable it with
and then reboot ( systemctl reboot )

Hmmm... something else is at play here.
You might try doing a full upgrade and see if something is hanging back.
Keep doing it as long as it keeps installing anything.
You *may* be able to start the gui with
there may be something left in your config or cache that is corrupted. Clearing that out might help here.
You are just about at the end of my systemd knowledge ... I will look more, but just about out of ideas.
Possibly remove and purge lightdm ... reboot and see. then reinstall it if you can get up and going.
