Konsole text and cursor out of position [Solved]
Konsole text and cursor out of position
First: discovered today before installing updates so I am not sure when this thing started to happen or the cause.
Things persisted after recent updates,
What happens:
Konsole cursor appears some distance to right of position where text appears when typed.
Equally when cursor is stepped backwards out of sync positioning is shown by cursor displaying it.
In attached images I typed 0 then tapped left arrow key and lo! the typed 0 now appears in blinking cursor.
Left and Right arrow repositioning consistently shows out of sync behavior.
Attached images probably say it a lot better than my attempts with words.
Upshot is: fear of using Konsole while hairs on back of my neck are quivering.

Re: Konsole text and cursor out of position
This was seen after modifying the default font settings in the KDE System settings in some thread here I cannot find ;-/ The fix as I recall was to change the font settings either for the system, or for the konsole. Seems like it was someone increasing the font size maybe ?

Re: Konsole text and cursor out of position
In general, this happens when you choose a font in the Konsole settings that is not monospace.
I use Liberation Mono Regular.

Re: Konsole text and cursor out of position
I checked System Settings > Appearance > Fonts and nothing obvious there. Fonts chosen are all Noto Sans with points set at 10, 10, 8, 10, 10 and 10 reading from top of listing downwards.CharlesV wrote: Mon May 19, 2025 10:51 pm This was seen after modifying the default font settings in the KDE System settings in some thread here I cannot find ;-/ The fix as I recall was to change the font settings either for the system, or for the konsole. In Konsole I adjusted font size by Ctrl & + and Ctrl & - Then restarted Konsole each time. No joy with either of these. Phasing/ dodgy echo persisted in each case.
Tried Yakuake similar behavior and I saw no options about how to change chosen font. Profiles, when available, came up as Default
Re: Konsole text and cursor out of position
Cheers I searched but could not find an option to change font in Konsole apart from mouse clicks to increase/decrease font size alternatively keyboard shortcuts Ctrl]+ and Ctrl]- for increase/decrease respectively.timkb4cq wrote: Mon May 19, 2025 11:04 pm In general, this happens when you choose a font in the Konsole settings that is not monospace.

Similar behaviors noticed in Yakuake
Re: Konsole text and cursor out of position [Solved]
In Konsole you have to create a new profile and then you can change the font.

Re: Konsole text and cursor out of position
This worked! Create new profile > Colour scheme & font (UK?) > Look for Choose... button along Font: line and chose Liberation Mono RegularCharlesV wrote: Tue May 20, 2025 4:16 pm In Konsole you have to create a new profile and then you can change the font.
As belt n braces approach I modded Appearance > Complex Text Layout > Emoji Font to Liberation Mono Regular (It came out as 12pt)
So far so good?
Looks like Yakuake needs same treatment but insecurities mean I'll keep one at 'yesterday' setting while I work on one with 'today' setting if that makes any sense.
I'll code it off as being solved but any further advice or "Oh No! Don't do THAT" advice will be welcomed
Re: Konsole text and cursor out of position
Excellent! Glad that resolved it for you. And yes, smaller steps are better - step & test... step & test :-)
