Add Launcher To Tint2

#1 Post by PaulR »

Brand new Fluxbox user here, very much appreciate the manual after years of XFCE/MATE/Windows up to v7 but I have a small problem. I selected the tint2rc panel theme then clicked 'config' for the graphical editor. I added a couple of apps and clicked apply but they don't appear on the panel even after logging out and back in. I searched the forum but didn't find this precise issue. I've edited the time date config and that has worked fine.

Also, in the 'applications selected' list is a file /usr/share/applications/xfce-appfinder-mxfb.desktop (which I'm guessing might include the default launchers settings,file manager, browser??) but I don't see that file in that directory, only xfce-appfinder.desktop.

Help!

Digging deeper I see I need to add a launcher section to the panel for my additions to show up - but why are the file manager and browser apps represented by buttons rather than being launchers? Looks odd having some theme icons next to program icons.

@PaulR
First off, welcome to mx-fluxbox. Hope you enjoy it.

The file manager and browser buttons are set up as "generic" buttons and are not tied to a specific app, unlike launcher buttons. We chose to use neutral icons for these buttons. You can delete the buttons and add thunar and firefox to your launcher.
Alternatively you could edit the button icons to match your theme, eg. to use papirus icons under button 3 change the line button_icon = /usr/share/mxflux/tint2/filemanager2.png to button_icon = /usr/share/icons/Papirus/32x32/places/folder.svg and under button 4 change button_icon = /usr/share/mxflux/tint2/internet50.png to button_icon = /usr/share/icons/Papirus/32x32/apps/firefox.svg

The xfce-appfinder-mxfb.desktop entry in tint2rc is a remnant from previous version of mx-fluxbox and shouldn't be there. As you have discovered, tintrc doesn't have the laucher enabled by default.
