ever seen this?

Has anyone ever seen this, and how do Ideal with it?

I believe this means your SMART controller has detected problems are taking place and you are about to lose a drive.

I would suggest backing up now, followed by cloning your existing drive out to a new harddrive or SSD.

Ditto. And yes I have seen that message before and it means that the drive's death is imminent.

You got lucky, man. Sometimes SMART doesn't work and the drive just immediately fails. With that said though, perhaps my knowledge is outdated and SMART is better than it was.

I really think it is drive dependent. There are many drives that just seem to fail.. while others SMART give indicators. I think the situation has gotten better... but...

Yeah.. mine were SMART, but none of them gave me this.

They DID warn me in the boot up messages, though. Which is why I always have boot messages visible. I want to KNOW when something happens.

If you keep going it'll turn itself off soon enough. Take your measures, be glad you got a warning.
