too many wine issues/how fix 32-bit dependencies?

#1 Post by autumn »

Hello
Was only recently I've tried out some games, after getting new pc early January. Lack of 32-bit wine dependencies is causing too many issues, with both art and games and generally. Add into that wine not seeming to see that I have the right things installed, and too much now locked behind root, system is not able to be used normally.

For example, an issue with Krita at this time, so fired up Sai2, which I have full proof of purchase for btw. Sai2 never had issues before this new pc/6.1 kernel/wine 8.0. Now 'memory insufficient', so saving breaks after a while, in just a minute or two if try liquorix 6.6 kernel. Lost work. Also 'windows function call failed', and a solution I saw online referenced that their virus protector had decided to block Sai2 from changing a file type ... why would I get a similar issue on Linux? Too much is locked behind things now; it's unnecessary and obstructive. Unlike pre-kernel6.1/wine8, had to go into root to apply dark theme to Sai2 is just one example. Shim error reading root, even during installing wine, is another. Many more similar things have occurred e.g. constantly can't open txt files directly with geany or open things from microSD backups, etc.

About games, I don't know where to start, but will try to summarise. I have everything correctly installed, including winetricks and the installs via that, including dxvk if needed, same as before. Just cannot run backed up games eg gog. I don't use steam or go online, same as before this new pc. Same games, same setup, but everything's broken.

Tried lots and these are the errors that come up:
0024:err:vulkan:wine_vk_init Failed to load libvulkan.so.1.
0024:err:wgl:init_opengl Failed to load libGL: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
0024:err:wgl:init_opengl OpenGL support is disabled.
0024:err:d3d:wined3d_caps_gl_ctx_create Failed to find a suitable pixel format.
0024:err:d3d:wined3d_adapter_gl_init Failed to get a GL context for adapter 047EE3D8.

yet, locate libGL.so.1 ...
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1.7.0
and
glxinfo | grep "OpenGL version" ...
OpenGL version string: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 24.2.8-1~bpo12+1

Make sure you have DirectX 11 installed, have up to date
drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled
3D acceleration in display settings.
InitializeEngineGraphics failed

not possible to create direct3d rendering device. you may need to reinstall directx and/or update drivers for your graphic card.

Any solution I've read, for days, has concerned me, especially as I have all these things in place (except 32-bit stuff):
If you're running a 32-bit app, you also need the 32-bit GL drivers. You'll need to search for how to install 32-bit OpenGL libs on a 64-bit system.
Did you set the wined3d renderer to vulkan? Because your wine doesn't have vulkan support.
Looks like you are missing 3d acceleration. What gfx card do you have, and what drivers are you running?
"It's failing to load your libGL.so, do you have your graphics driver properly installed (both 32bit and 64bit)?"

Every other 'solution' references proton, but I'm offline, just trying to run normal wine.

Why is nothing being seen? How is it possible to fix 32-bit dependencies? And freeing up things from overzealous root would no doubt help too. I could add all kinds of code output from every error and showing everything needed is installed, but will just add quick info unless other stuff is requested. Would really appreciate especially knowing how to find the 32-bit dependencies, as lack of those seems to be having a very detrimental effect on running things, now I've got round to trying things out. Didn't want to upgrade pc or go onto the 6 kernel series or upgrade wine in the first place. Would be very grateful if there's any solution to this mess.

I'v read your post three times and I'm confused. Are you trying to run a 32 bit app in a 64 bit operating system?
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

MY QSI shows a modern 64-bit machine, and from the start my post references missing 32-bit dependencies affecting art and games.
EDIT: added word 'dependencies' into thread title, for anyone not reading the post.

That's pretty easy with MX's multiarch. I wonder if the OP set up a 32 or 64 bit Wine Environment, though.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Can't make it any clearer guys. Will leave what seems to be gaslighting, intended or otherwise (through just not reading the post), here where it belongs. Have gone to EndeavourOS; 32-bit support, art programmes fine, games running, and not overzealously locked down root, at last.
