Hello. I want to try and be as clear as possible. I have been running MX23.5 Libretto Plasma on HDD (sda). Normally it boots in to a 5 second GRUB menu and if nothing pressed it loads up in to Plasma. I have concluded that Plasma was a bit much for the old hardware and manybloat/things I don't need. Some crashes, freeze ups and ran hot also was unable to adjust brightness etc. I was however able to use the night /day modes which helped. I also have a 254GB internal ssd (sdb) that I installed Fluxbox on to. I then was able to hold alt/option on start up to access boot loader. Without any external usb or drives plugged it I am shown 3 icon boxes , 2 have the text EFI under and 1 says Windows. I noted which EFI corresponded to Fluxbox or Plasma and it would load into either os distro. My gal is to boot straight into Fluxbox on SSD, and once all set up get rid of Plasma on the HDD and have the EFI boot, Root on SSD and home on HDD, not sure about Swap. Even if I could just use HDD for storage that's ok too. I couldnot figure out how to do it, so I just put all 4 partitions on SSD. ( would using LVM be possible? ). Ok, so ever since I switched over to Linux almost 2 years ago I have continued to fail at setting up the file system correctly, along with mounting causing permission issues, and a mess of files/folders etc. Attempting to fixI messed up, trying to assign UUID's to the correct partition within nano. Now after a reboot it will boot in to the GRUB menu or boot loader too but it won;t load in to the os. only a blank screen with a flashing curser. I am now using a live usb to boot and access my system but don't know how to fix. Please help! The following hopefully will help also. Thanks!

That suggests GRUB isn't installed correctly. The easiest thing to do is reinstall Fluxbox on the SSD. If you want to try to repair this, you just need to think about how GRUB works: you pick your partition, edit the GRUB config, build your initramfs, update the GRUB config on disk, and then install the GRUB bootloader. It's a little more complicated for a UEFI install, but not much.

So sdb1 is the EFI partition and sdb2 is the Fluxbox root partition. That means sdb2 needs to be the place where the update-initramfs, grub-update, and grub-install commands must be run -- from inside a chroot. You can mount and chroot sdb2 by hand or you can run Chroot Rescue Scan. MX Boot Repair is also going to be helpful.

I wanted though to say that I appreciate you and again thanks. I'll just run the live version I guess, and start fresh every time or just never let my pc sleep or turn off. Yay.

I prefer to use windows partition manager to setup my drives, mostly because it is clear and easy to use and i'm very familiar with it. But i found these links that may help you?

It has nothing to do with being cool. That is what is in your mind. It has to do with people looking, having little time, so will respond later. Or just don't know the answer.

Yeah, you might have to wait a bit, but I have never been let-down by The Forum :exclamation:

Can't give you stats, but I find that someone (and often Developers/Professionals) will get back to you within a day or two. :happy:

BTW, you can also PM someone who has responded, esp. if you aren't getting any feedback, or are really stuck. I'm not giving this as official Forum policy; just my (hopefully helpful) experience....

You need to take into account that many of us lack the familiarity with Apple hardware / bioses to comfortably offer advice.
