video problem ? with lenove M710q in mx23 and updated mx21

I have a working + fully upto date mx25 (32 bit) that works on all my various Lenovo machine eg X200s but not on my think centre M710q
it will start up gets as far as beginning to display the home screen in that the time briefly appears in top left corner but gets no further before giving a blank screen though the mouse cursor is present
I think the same problem occurs on some non Lenovo machines as I built a MX25 system for my brother and sent him the SSD harddrive to replace a working MX19 on an old laptop used to play music. - the MX25 works on my old Lenovos + an old acer laptop but not the M710q

the same thing happens to an updated version of MX21.3 constructed from a year old dvd works fine but not after an update - same fault as above - this from the MX21.3 pre update

Your 710q is a UEFI machine, yet you have done a legacy install. CSM is an emulator built into UEFI specifically designed to allow users to roll back to Windows 7 from Windows 8, 8.1, and the early builds of Windows 10. It was never meant for use with another OS like Linux. If you do perform a CSM install with Linux, it may seem to work at first, but it will quickly go sideways.

not sure I understand your reply (beyond my paygrade?) - I tend to go for legacy boots as have a number of old Lenovo laptops and tend to use different machines for different functions (eg I do a lot of archival transcribing - one machine holds photos and I transcribe on another with a third holding a master database) as well as being able to move harddrives between geographically separate machines (they are lighter to move! and I regularly commute 10hr journeys by public transport) - the bios on the M710q offers option to allow legacy boots.

In the instance of a UEFI Set Up Utility "Legacy" has been reinterpreted to mean that a user could roll back the operating system specifically to Windows 7. It does not mean an MBR install as defined by Linux.
