Session startup sounds not working [SOLVED]

#1 Post by aldQueiroz »

HI, I'd like to have assistance to find out why Session startup sounds aren't running... The Audio card is selected and working and, when checking out the feature with MX System sound tool, the chosen chime is played normally! All due checkboxes are checked.
Xfce's Session and Startup seems to be rightly set too, with all loginsound , logousound entries all checked...
I've noticed this issue there's no more than two weeks ago. When I did the system update to MX 23.2 and subsequent update to 23.4 Startup sounds were ok. I wonder if it could be related to the latest 23.5 update.. 9_9

Verify that your system sounds volume is set to something you can hear. (pulseaudio volume - playback tab)

Also I noticed that for both screen saver and sounds, after the 23.4 update some machines need the settings changed, saved and then changed back to what you want - before they will actually work.
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.

Uodate coming soon. I’ve been trying to force the sound not to play until the soundsever is actually running. This condition is different on sysvinit vs systemd and I think I broke something in some cases.

So, the issue could be related to the sound server itself?...
And, which one? MX now comes with Pipewire too, but it's not active in my system, only PulseAudio (which I don't like but, so far, it's the default...).

either.

its not really related to the sound server, other than at least for pipewire I need the server to actually be running before playing a sound.

the new update will also just try to play the sound after 10 seconds if they conditions for server startup or never met.

So, can I wait for a solution to that issue within a next update of the system?...

Btw, about choosing PulseAudio or Pipewire; could you or someone else enlighten me about that?...

Thanks to all for your attention!
