I have installed Calibre 8 since my last Calibre program failed to start. I get the following error:

$ calibre
qt.glx: qglx_findConfig: Failed to finding matching FBConfig for QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0, options QFlags<QSurfaceFormat::FormatOption>(), depthBufferSize -1, redBufferSize 1, greenBufferSize 1, blueBufferSize 1, alphaBufferSize -1, stencilBufferSize -1, samples -1, swapBehavior QSurfaceFormat::SingleBuffer, swapInterval 1, colorSpace QColorSpace(), profile QSurfaceFormat::NoProfile)
qt.glx: qglx_findConfig: Failed to finding matching FBConfig for QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0, options QFlags<QSurfaceFormat::FormatOption>(), depthBufferSize -1, redBufferSize 1, greenBufferSize 1, blueBufferSize 1, alphaBufferSize -1, stencilBufferSize -1, samples -1, swapBehavior QSurfaceFormat::SingleBuffer, swapInterval 1, colorSpace QColorSpace(), profile QSurfaceFormat::NoProfile)
Could not initialize GLX
Aborted

I have also attempted to reinstall and install Calibre with the MXInstaller but no luck.

Any assistance would be grateful, thank you.

I have Calibre 8 installed here on 23.4 KDE and it's working fine.
Try launching it from a terminal see if it throws any error messages. If not

Code: Select all

calibre
I would try this first in the terminal

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge calibre
Then try reinstalling via the software installer.
Good luck.

How?
I used
sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.sh | sudo sh /dev/stdin
(from the relevant web site)
with no untoward effects.

MikeR, as above, I tried re-installing with the MX installer, no joy, I then went to the Calibre web site and did what you did.

The error as posted above is when I try to start calibre in the terminal.

Please note: I have had calibre working in the past, then had not used it for a while, I have had system update since. Maybe something there, I don't know.

@Seagasm
This appears on the InterWeb as (probably) an Nvidia related problem.
Hopefully one of the local gurus will intercede.
Sorry not to be able to offer a soluton, best of luck.

Mike

this may be of help from Arch:
"The "Could not initialize GLX" error typically indicates a problem with the graphics library or drivers on your system, often related to compatibility issues with your graphics card. Updating your graphics drivers or ensuring that your hardware meets the necessary requirements may help resolve this issue."

Which graphics card are you using?

Sort of, I removed Nvidia drivers and Calibre is now working. Thank you for your assistance all.

Glad it's working for you! I've always had problems with Nvidia :(
But I've been told the newer ones are now better with linux.

Is the a MXLinux command for a work around solution?

Export QT_XCB_GL_INTEGRATION=none application-calibre
