gnome-calculator immediately freezes on opening

#1 Post by Antediluvian »

I would like some suggestions for how to get gnome-calculator working again.

For me gnome-calculator used to work just fine, but for the past few weeks (or couple of months?) it immediately freezes upon trying to run it. It is non-responsive to clicking anywhere in its window and you can't enter data with the keyboard. To close the non-responsive window I end up right clicking its icon in the panel and selecting close, which brings up this window.
Screenshot_2025-03-13_23-47-06.png
If I start gnome-calculator from the terminal I get this:

Code: Select all

$ gnome-calculator

(gnome-calculator:3976648): Gtk-WARNING **: 00:35:32.694: Trying to snapshot MathConverter 0x55c6bbeed760 without a current allocation

What happens with my desktop computer also happens with my laptop. Both are running the latest MX23 Xfce.
QSI of my desktop.

Yeah, I found this out as well when I googled. It crashes on loading the financial stuff.

To disable financial interval:

Code: Select all

dconf write /org/gnome/calculator/refresh-interval 0
You can enable it in preferences when an update comes through.
