As I understand it, XFCE does not currently support Wayland. Our developers have stated here that while the XFCE team is working on it, they have yet to succeed.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

currently Xfce's wayland solution is to replace xfwm4 window manager with labwc. labwc is not in debian bookworm repo, so casual playing with wayland on Xfce won't be very practical until debian 13. for this reason we have removed the wayland session file from our Xfce 4.20 implementation, but it is installable. (xfce4-wayland-session-file package) if a user wants to go off the rails and play. expect breakage.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.
