Review: Compatible Printer - Canon Pixma TS7722

Here you can post about what you did to get MX to work right with your computer or if hardware worked right out of the box for you. This is for the computers and/or hardware that is normally hard to get working right in Linux or MX.

Review: Compatible Printer - Canon Pixma TS7722

Sorry if there's a place for hardware compatibility reviews or comments. I couldn't find it.

I have been a Linux user of various distributions since the early 2000s, currently an MX user on several local and remote desktops and my primary laptop. This year, we are migrating N/S with my MXLinux laptop, my wife with her Windows laptop, and she needed a printer to support her remote work. She chose the Canon Pixma TS7722 that does everything she would need, and it worked flawlessly for her, wireless, plug and play. But printing has always been a challenge for the various Linux distros I've tried, wireless mostly impossible or requiring finding and d/ling h/w manufacturer drivers that may work once but eventually fail and become unsupported.

I'm happy to report that the Canon Pixma TS7700-series printer (<$80 @ Amazon) with MXLinux has been a remarkable exception. With the printer simply plugged in out of the box, I was able to connect, configure, and send a LibreOffice document to the printer using only s/w included with MXLinux, and the document printed exactly as it was displayed. A few days later, I needed to scan a multi-page document, and manually placing each page on the printer, the MXLinux scanning s/w added each page scanned to a single pdf document. The document I scanned had color text and graphics plus highlighted portions in yellow and purple, and all colors were accurately captured with underlying text clearly visible. Much later, reading the manual, I learned the printer has an auto document feeder for multi-page scans, which I haven't tried, but there shouldn't be any reason it wouldn't work.

I'll add lessons learned as I gain them, but printing on the road is not something I do often. When I do, I'm very happy that my wife chose this printer and that MXLinux just works with it.

Greg.
