MX linux as a Server OS, does anybody do it?

Since MX is a desktop-oriented OS, I thought I'd ask if anybody specifically uses MX as a server OS. My own server system, which I use for self-hosting, runs vanilla Debian. My laptop has been running MX for years. The only downside for me is that my "server" is also a system I occasionally use as a desktop for gaming (as it has a nice GPU and fast processor), so I miss a lot of the MX desktop niceties compared to vanilla Debian with KDE.

So, do any of you use MX as a server OS (for any specific advantage, and if so, what)?

Yes, I have 11 servers out there with MX on it. Three servers are file and DB servers, the rest are setup for Ubiquiti WiFi controllers.

I run liquorix on all of them as none of them are heavy use really. The file servers are fairly light ( 9 people max) and the DB's are document servers and SVN servers. so also not heavy use really. Other than pulling off a few apps I never use, I pretty much leave them all loaded up as I also prefer to jump onto them and have everything there and ready to go.

I believe my oldest one is MX19 and it has been running since 2020, Most of these are "headless" and the only issue I have had with any of them was the slow speeds when no monitor was connected. Which I fixed by installing xserver-xorg-video-dummy

Was there anything specific about MX that you think made it particularly suited for that?

Well... MX before adding a Liquorix kernel, is using the debian base kernels which really *are* setup for servers. So ( imo ) your starting out with a "server based os" .

In using MX I find that I get better performance with a Liquorix kernel. And I also have found that "everything runs better" as a desktop too... so I prefer that setup.

As for why use MX and not debian... there is no question in my mind that MX is better. (again, in my opinion.) And, since I work with it every day, I am very familiar with how . what it is - which is pretty much everything when something goes wrong.

I have used Debian, Mint, and a few others. Debian as a server is so rock solid that its truly a beast as a server. And I have found MX to be just as sturdy, yet with all the tweaks and 'upgrades' I believe it to be superior. (Again - I dont have servers that handle mass amounts of people.. so 'light duty' might be what you would call MY servers... but they just work well! )

My Mancave PC is my central storage server with remote desktop offering the ability to run remote VMs while at the same time being a full use machine for when I'm in my cabin/Workshop. I've always had at least one machine running MX since the very first release in 2014, though the services rendered have differed to suit my use case scenarios through the years.
