Time to introduce myself

#1 Post by herrTravolta »

Hello, Reading here since the beginning of last year, it's time to introduce myself:
I come from Berlin, formerly East Berlin. My first love for computers arose during my vocational training in 1986.
At that time, we in East Germany dreamed of the Commodore C64 and Commodore Amiga.

After some mediocre attempts since the 90s (Suse Linux, Slackware), I have been using almost exclusively Linux on my 'machines' since 2024.
PC | OS1: Linux Mint 22 Xfce | OS2: Debian Testing Xfce | OS3: Windows 11 | Core i5-6600 | 32 GB
Lenovo ThinkCentre 625q | MX Linux 23.5 ahs Xfce | AMD E2-9000e RADEON R2 | 8 GB
Acer Swift 1 | Debian Testing Xfce | Pentium Silver N6000 | 8 GB

Welcome to the MX Forums.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Welcome.
My start in computing was building a Heathkit H89 and then z100. Fun soldering the motherboards.

Welcome aboard. Nice to see a lurker come out of the shadows.

So despite your toying with open source in your eariler years, have you have only recently jumped ship from proprietary titles? What was the catalyst for you to do so?

Welcome.
My first try into Linux was RedHat (from a CDROM)... but from Windows 3.11 and Win98 the step was very high for me.
