Why is my / 36GB?

#1 Post by arjaybe »

I can't figure out why my install is so big. I've been searching for the problem with little luck. The best I can come up with is that it's including my two data partitions in its total. Here's a look at the partition manager:

Does the Disk Usage Analyzer show you where the largest of space is taken up?

Disk Usage Analyzer ( MX Clean up too ) can show you. I prefer qdirstat ( MX Package Installer ) and that will give you ) imo ) a MUCH better layout / visual of where / what the data is.
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Where is that? I didn't set a swap file, just a swap partition.

Filelight doesn't help me much. I'll try that qdirstat.

Yeah, I get different numbers in different places. 31GB doesn't seem normal to me for a fresh install, especially since I keep my data off / and /home.

Could it be that it's including my data drives in the count, because the numbers seem likely.

looks like you set a swap file.

Code: Select all

 Swap:
  Kernel: swappiness: 15 (default 60) cache-pressure: 100 (default)
  ID-1: swap-1 type: file size: 19.46 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) priority: -2 file: /swap/swap
you could have both.

Code: Select all

swapon --show
should list them.

Right here. type: file

Code: Select all

Swap:
  Kernel: swappiness: 15 (default 60) cache-pressure: 100 (default)
  ID-1: swap-1 type: file size: 19.46 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) priority: -2 file: /swap/swap

Here's an example using a partition. This is from my QSI.

type: partition

Code: Select all

Swap:
  Kernel: swappiness: 15 (default 60) cache-pressure: 50 (default 100)
  ID-1: swap-1 type: partition size: 64 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) priority: -2 dev: /dev/sdb2
    maj-min: 8:18
