iDeal OS (MX based)

From Distrowatch:
iDeal OS is a Linux distribution which is based on MX Linux. The project provides a respin of MX Linux with additional security and parental controls. iDeal OS also offers a commercial edition with more developer tools and utilities for content creation.
The commercial edition seems a little iffy. A "donation" of 59€ for the Diamond edition.

LMAO. They go from touting a freedns service anybody can use on any pc to "protecting the children" filters as if mentioning 2 ridiculous items somehow makes them special much less 'secure' anymore than MX, or any other linux os for that matter, already is oob. They are literally stealing The MXLinux name and the official iso and trying to sell it by simply rebranding it as if they did anything to it at all except change the way it looks slightly. First I thought it flattering. Now it's just offensive tbqh. But hey if someone wants to give them money 'cause they say so I won't hold em back.

I hope they are contributing something upstream to MX if they are selling their version... A commercial edition for content creation...? I didn't know the FOSS content creation apps cost more than regular FOSS apps, Dang! I must have missed the memo on that one!

How to make some money:
- Move the Xfce panel from the left to the right and put the menu button on the top instead of the bottom. Spend 10 minutes making a logo. Change the wallpaper slightly and call it "XW Linux: Linux Turned Upside-Down!".
- Run XW Snapshot and charge people €59 for it.
- Profit!

And as a special added attraction,
I have this bridge at a new improved price...

I'm not inherently opposed to the idea of charging for software, and I'm even willing to bend a little on charging for software in free and open source projects. Things like the grsec kernel hardening project would be something useful, and there's certainly a market for people who want enhanced security from their offerings, but I decline to pay for grsec patches because they never seem to get around to upstreaming any of their work to the mainline kernel. This makes them good at taking things and bad at giving things back, and if you want me to consider you not a terrible person, you need to figure out how to strike a balance between those two things.
If the iDealOS folks have an app or three that are just gobsmackingly good, I can see charging €59. And I can see bundling it with an OS for convenience much like how low-level disk repair or disk formatting tools are usually bundled into a little minimal version of a bootable FreeDOS ISO or something. I was happy to pay something like €60 every six months for new OpenBSD install discs I never used[0], because it was a project I'd used for years and it was a way to contribute back to those developers who helped build all my firewalls and mail servers.
I have no idea what the extra software is or why it might be worth €59, but that's for individual users to decide. Personally, I'm content staying amazed at how much the MX team has managed to accomplish building a project they provide at no cost. How can they do so much when they give away their software for free? Volume!
[0] I used the operating system, just not the discs.

If that's the QSI from it, they literally didn't even bother to change its ID?

Not that I'm equating the two projects (MX is the KIng!) but many years ago in my Remastersys days somebody did a similar thing with AVL, some guy literally just changed the wallpaper and was distributing it on SourceForge as 'Demon Linux'.. Of course it normally didn't matter in the FOSS world but I had proprietary apps that I was bundling with permission from their developers so this person was violating their redistribution licenses but that's another thing... At least this project is making it clear that it is based on MX, the commercial version seems a bit dubious but TBH I haven't read the fine print..
*Essentially with the exception of VS Code AVL is shipping everything in the Diamond edition and then some (full version of Ardour, Reaper, Mixbus and Commercial Plugin demos).. It should be noted OcenAudio has not been maintained for many years as far as I know and has been far surpassed by Audacity now..
