Old machines with uvesafb.

For issues with MX that has been modified from the initial install. Example: adding packages that then cause issues.

Old machines with uvesafb.

#1 Post by fmiku »

Hi,

Latelly I try to install MX-23 xfce on a Dell optiplex 755.
it's come witha 82Q35 video.

Unfortunatelly the i815 driver with kernel 6.1 does not work, instead can be run xorg with fbdev driver.
to get work requires to load 'uveasfb.ko' which is requires to install v86d_0.1.10-5_amd64.deb package (unfortunatelly not available in the debian repo since bookworm, so I get it freom the ubuntu repo.

With all requests, as per forum rules (which, if you haven't, please read), please share your full Quick System Info, do not edit.
If need be, you can do this using the LiveUSB, thanks.

This is a problem. See here:

Your machine is sixteen years old. I think that you should have used MX Package Installer (MXPI) to install a kernel that would have been current with your computer --> the Antix 4.9.xxx or the Antix 4.19.xxx
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.
