Google refuses to accept connection with both Online Connections and kiogdrive, any workarounds?

#1 Post by Lady Owl »

Hi! I just succesfully installed (and updated) MX 23.4 KDE on my laptop and started settling in the new system. I have installed & used other distros before, but I can not be considered an experienced user regarding troubleshooting, command line, maintenance etc.

Now I found Online Accounts in system settings, and tried to add Google of course. Got as far as to have Google asking for verification in my phone - but after that Google itself refused to grant access.

I found kiodrive been suggested, and added all the packages recommended here viewtopic.php?p=737329&hilit=Online+acc ... le#p737329. And then tried both via Online Accounts, and Dolphin. It got me one step further - Google verification asked me to choose the number (out of 3) that was on screen. But still ultimately, access not granted.

Searched around and it seems that this issue has been around for quite a while. Has any solution been found in the mean time? Or any workaround? Would be practical to have connection to Google Drive, after all (and I guess it would help with connecting to gmail etc).

With all requests, as per forum rules (which, if you haven't, please read), please share your full Quick System Info, do not edit.
If need be, you can do this using the LiveUSB, thanks.

Rclone is a tool to manage data in the cloud efficiently and securely on Linux systems

Open a terminal.

Run in it:

Code: Select all

 sudo apt update

Code: Select all

 sudo apt install rclone

Configure the application with the following command in the same terminal:

Code: Select all

rclone config
Select the option to add a new remote, select “n” and press Enter.

Choose a name to be used to refer to your Google Drive connection in rclone, for example Gdrive

Select the type of storage you will use, Google Drive corresponds to drive (13) and press Enter.

Configure the Google Drive application, follow the instructions that appear in the terminal to obtain the authorization token, which will allow you to access your Google Drive from rclone.

Select the default configuration settings, which are suitable.

Once the configuration is complete, it will show you a summary of your options, if everything is correct, confirm the configuration.

Create the directory where to mount Google-drive, for example ~/gdrive, by running in the terminal

Code: Select all

 mkdir ~/gdrive

To access Google-drive, you must run the following command in a terminal:

Code: Select all

 rclone mount Gdrive: ~/google-drive &

You can create a script to run this command when you start your computer and always have google-drive mounted on your system, if you want.

To access Google-drive, you must run the following command in a terminal:

Code: Select all

 rclone mount Gdrive: ~/google-drive &

You can create a script to run this command when you start your computer and always have google-drive mounted on your system, if you want.
Thanks. I managed to do that (it gives a bunch of read errors about partial downloads, but that's another thing...and maybe it won't do that the next time). At least I have Google Drive when I need. (Making scripts is still foreign to me, but I made a note of the command, with my directory names etc.)

Once configured and running, you can install rclone browser:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt install rclone-browser
And through it, graphically mount and unmount the resource.
