KVM Kernel extension?

#1 Post by shmu26 »

I tried out Virt-manager (libvirt), which I installed from "Popular Applications" in MXPI. Then I uninstalled it, and went back to VirtualBox. I am running the current Oracle version of VirtualBox:

Code: Select all

Version 7.0.22 r165102 (Qt5.15.8)
When I start up a virtual machine, I get an error message from VB:

Code: Select all

VirtualBox can't operate in VMX root mode. Please disable the KVM kernel extension, recompile your kernel and reboot (VERR_VMX_IN_VMX_ROOT_MODE).
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0X80004005)
Component:
ConsoleWrap
Interface:
IConsole {6ac83d89-6ee7-4e33-8ae6-b257b2e81be8}
I can temporarily solve the issue by running this command:

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe -r kvm_intel
But after a reboot, I need to run it again.

Code: Select all

Can be set permanently in MX Tweak, in the "Other" tab, by clicking a radio button to prevent the kvm module from loading at boot. It will still load if something demands it.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing
