@calixtus06
I changed your quote tags to code tags in order to make your QSI easier to read and navigate.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Your QSI doesn't show a wireless adapter.
Please post the outputs of

Code: Select all

lsusb
and

Code: Select all

lspci
Perhaps we can tell from those.
HP Pavillion TP01, AMD Ryzen 3 5300G (quad core), Crucial 500GB SSD, Toshiba 6TB 7200rpm
Dell Inspiron 15, AMD Ryzen 7 2700u (quad core). Sabrent 500GB nvme, Seagate 1TB

Is there any chance that the card going bad is why it was a gift, or does it still have an OS on it where it's working?

Maybe it's there and you need to boot in legacy mode for Linux to see it, per this Mint forum thread: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=294443

But first try MX Network assistant to try a kernel driver instead of broadcom-sta's "wl" module. But Apple always has to be coy about other OS's on their precious hardware, so maybe just a cheap USB wi-fi adapter could work out better in the long run.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

It sounds like it's broken or there's something loose inside. When searched for the same model (Mac-94245B3640C91C81) in all QSIs it shows as:

Device-2: Broadcom BCM4331 802.11a/b/g/n vendor: Apple AirPort Extreme driver: wl v: kernel
