Thunderbird and Microsoft hotmail.com problem

I have noticed for some months there has been a problem using Thunderbird for my mail account on hotmail.com
Will it ever be good again so I can just use it like I used to with my old password.?
I don't blame Thunderbird for the problem.
I am sure they have experts doing what they can to solve it but if the door is locked there is nothing legal they can do.
On the other hand there is no end to the blame I want to put on Microsoft.
It is all to many times I have seen Microsoft ruthlessly disconnect their users.
They are as always almost completely indifferent to backward compatibility.
Am I wrong in that assessment.?
I've seen on their site that they still offer a free email account.
No thanks.! - I couldn't close the page fast enough and ran away screaming.! lol

Your problem could be that hotmail doesn't exist anymore other than in legacy email addresses. All new accounts are issued as <your chosen name here 'at' outlook.com>

I've found that some webmail services want you to visit the webmail page periodically. Like you the IMAP/SMTP connection was totally failing.
It got lonesome? Dunno...I just know it has worked for me a time or three.

Microsoft suggests enabling pop, in: View tab ---> View settings ---> Mail ---> Sync email, in Outlook.com
And in the account:
Code: Select all
POP server name outlook.office365.com
POP port 995
POP encryption SSL/TLS
Authentication method OAuth2/Modern Authentication

It still exist and it can still receive mails.
Thunderbird just can't log in anymore.
Maybe I can get in via Firefox somehow but last time I tried that I had to give up because it was a labyrinth and they wanted all kinds of personal information. The platform has changed completely against what I expected when I registered.

You have misunderstood what I said. Of course your Hotmail address still works, but you are now connecting to an Outlook/Exchange server. You need to access the appropriate Microsoft site, determine what settings are required and then make those changes (if you can) in Thunderbird.
FWIW, it was nonsense like this by another email provider that made me switch from an email client like Thunderbird to a web mail provider like GMail years ago.

M$ has switched from whatever authentication protocol they used previously to oauth2. You'll need an email client that supports this, and adjustments to your connection settings. Sorry i cannot be more specific regarding thunderbird since i am using seamonkey, which works fine with oauth2 in versions 2.19+

Thunderbird supports oauth2 and baldyeti is correct, you will need to 'reconnect' to make this happen.

TB works with oauth2, has done so for a long time. Yahoo changed their method to that too, years ago.
