Pulse Effects / Easy Effect neither works on MX 23

I'm looking for an audio equalizer that works on MX 23.4. I've tried both Pulse Effects and Easy Effects but can't get either to install and work properly. I want a graphic equalizer that I can use both for CDs and streaming on the web (You Tube Music). Should be simple, no? What do people use? Thanks!

My MX 23 respin "extrox" and past respin release built-in Pulseeffects or Easyeffects.
There was no problem at install. Used command I use bellow.
At first, apt update necessary.

Code: Select all

sudo apt update

sudo apt install easyeffects
or
sudo apt install pulseeffects
Most recommended is use MX Package Installer.

On MXPI, please search
Popular Application -> Pulseeffects
Enabled Repo -> Easyeffects

I tried both of them a few weeks ago. One didn't install at all, the other (I think it was Pulse effects but I don't exactly remember) installed, worked for about 10 minutes, then stopped working AND I had no sound at all until I uninstalled. Is there some little trick I don't know or some particular instructions to follow?? Are both programs commonly used on Debian 12? What am I doing wrong?

Code: Select all

Audio:
Device-1: Intel Comet Lake PCH cAVS vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel
    alternate: snd_sof_pci_intel_cnl bus-ID: 00:1f.3 chip-ID: 8086:06c8 class-ID: 0403
  API: ALSA v: k6.1.0-28-amd64 status: kernel-api tools: alsamixer,amixer
  Server-1: PipeWire v: 1.0.0 status: off with: 1: pipewire-pulse status: off 2: wireplumber
    status: off tools: pw-cat,pw-cli,wpctl
  Server-2: PulseAudio v: 16.1 status: active tools: pacat,pactl,pavucontrol
It looks Pipewire is disabled. (why?) If this situation on me, I install "wireplumber" from enabled repo.
But I'm not confident about this method, I wait other user's more help.
Please wait new post.

There is a 'pipewire-setup-mx' Package in MXPI that looks after installing all the needed PipeWire components and startup scripts (including WirePlumber).

Thanks. If I install that first then pulse effects and easy effects should install without a problem? Which do you recommend? I just want a simple equalizer.

I'm not sure TBH, I don't use them but I believe Easy Effects is the PipeWire-friendly successor to Pulse Effects..? @Freja ?

Yes, pulseeffects supports only old pulseaudio machine, easyeffects supports only new pipewire machine.
Pulseaudio is not require pipewire, this case suitable pulseeffects I think.

And both install is impossible, install can only either one.

Ah, to use equalizer on pulseeffects / easyeffects needs install Linux Studio Plugins.

Code: Select all

sudo apt install lsp-plugins
Probably 2 way available.
1. If need pipewire (hi quality sound),
install pipewire-setup-mx from MXPI, then install easyeffects and lsp-plugins.
2. Install pulseeffects and lsp-plugins. (Not needed install pipewire packages.)

Before either easyeffects / pulseeffects install, must be uninstall easyeffects and pulseeffects.

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge pulseeffects
sudo apt purge easyeffects

Thanks so much, I'll give pipe wire and easy effects a try and let you know how it goes.
