Lock screen - freezes my laptop

I have a recent mx23.4 xfce install and notice that lock screen option - clicked from whiskermenu widget brings up the animated screensaver which runs happily until I mouse click or hit the keyboard when the laptop freezes and is unresponsive to any thing inc alt+sysreq reisub . I have to resort to the power button

I have tried toggling between the "use intel driver rather than modesetting ..." thing in case its a graphics driver issue but on either setting the pc freezes

The default xfce4 screensaver has issues. Uninstall it, and if you want a screen saver then install xscreensaver ( MX Package Installer )

did this

Code: Select all

sudo apt remove xfce4-screensaver
now nothing happens when I lock screen and I cant seem to find the GUI where I actually chose the screensaver to display on lock ( I want to disable it ). It doesn't seem to be in Sessions & Startup or Power management

Code: Select all

sudo apt install light-locker -y
Now you'll have a locker (that was ootb with MX-21 and 18 and before) and you can disable it (auto-locking before suspend) if you like from "Power Manager" (you can still lock the screen with it manually whenever you like).

Or install xscreensaver for screen savers. I run in on my MX23's and it works perfectly for me.

Thanks - I used light-locker as the xscreensaver brought up an ugly login prompt , not the MX themed one that appears when you select log out
