WiFi in MX is recognized, but anti-X does not.

#1 Post by ripxrip »

I'm not sure which forum to post this in, but since this forum gets more traffic, and it is mostly about getting the wifi driver from MX so I can use it...

MX-23.4_x64 “ahs” recognize my wifi card, but antiX-23.2 does not. Is there a way to take the drivers from mx and add them to anti-x? I like MX Linux, but its too heavy for the system I'm trying to use it on. Anti-x works wonderfully, but it doesn't recognize my wifi.

My wifi is listed as Network controller: Intel Corporation CNVi

Thanks in advance for the help. I'm an ex-Windows IT tech trying to learn Linux. There have been ups and downs, but in general, I'm happy with the switch.

If you like you can also post the QSI from antiX (just to compare). ("System Info" or so on antiX .. or you can inxi -Fxxxrza )

Your device seems to be supported since kernel 5.12 . You can still install a more recent kernel and/or most recent "firmware" (on antiX) directly from the original source (if you like only).. We'll go on...

Just: Is antiX installed or just live system? (Cause the steps will be different according to that).

Are you booting antiX with the 6.1 kernel?
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

i'm just using the default iso boot disk. I will go ahead and install it if that will help. I didn't want to install it if I couldn't get wifi working because eventually it's going to be away from eathernet.

Yes.
https://www.antixforum.com/antix-23-2-released/ wrote:
antiX-full (c1.8GB)... x64 versions come with 2 kernels. Legacy 5.10 and Modern 6.1
...
Note: After installation of antiX-23.2_x64-full editions, the default kernel will be Modern 6.1 even if Legacy 5.10 was booted during the live boot.
And, as above, if it was the 5.10 kernel on live session, it was normal, cause you need 5.12 +
It may begin working after installation due to 6.1 kernel.

Ok, since it's 6.1 on MX, too it must be firmware.

You can perform an update chrooting from MX: "Chroot Rescue Scan" from menu, it'll find your antiX, proceed, when you see the prompt:

chroot>

issue:

Code: Select all

apt update ; apt dist-upgrade -y
Yes, no need to sudo.... Then boot with antiX ... (If still not we'll install the most recent firmware).

You can also:

Code: Select all

sudo dmesg | grep -i iwlwifi
to see whether it shows something's missing and we can "pinpoint" .

FYI MX says Kernel: 6.10.10-1-liquorix-amd64 [6.10-12~mx23ahs]
Anti-X says Kernel: 6.1.105-antix.1-amd64-smp

is that both 6.1 or is anti-x 6.1 and MX 6.10?

it could just be the way they are written

from my phone
