Request MX-23: Mullvad Browser

#1 Post by Ups »

Hello, could you please include the Mullvad browser?

The Mullvad browser was created in collaboration with the TOR project and is based on Firefox.
It is currently considered one of the most secure browsers.

While you are waiting, there are some simple install approaches available that might help:

@Ups
If you need it immediately, it's available as a flatpack in MXPI.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

My apology. Didn't realize that same topic was already opened. And even on the same day!
Since looks like Mullvad is in the process of being added, I will wait. I have a thing to stay away from flatpacks. Too flat for me... ;)

Thank you for your messages.

I don't like the flatpacks, but I have installed the Mullvad browser on top of them and it is now running in an old version because there are no updates.

Since I am a Linux beginner, the mods recommended me not to install Linux applications, but to look through the repos.

I also think that a secure browser simply belongs to Linux and in the packages.

That's why I'm asking here whether this browser can be included.

If it's based on Firefox, then it probably requires a newer rustc compiler to builld it than we can provide. They do have a 64-bit repository, though. Just a single lone deb in it, no source.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Also while waiting, you might try Brave Browser and/or Libre Wolf. Chromium and Mozilla based, respectively.
Thanks for being there!

Maybe you can find something here, unfortunately I have no idea about this:

Thanks, I've been using both for a few years now, as I use a "multi-browser concept".
But the Mullvad browser is quite something in terms of security.

The last I looked, the CIA were involved in running some TOR infrastructure. I simply don't trust any browser, because they all harvest user info to some extent, and they all make deals with reprehensible companies, like Google, which itself has State Mafia origins. https://medium.com/insurge-intelligence ... 36451a959e
