Can I have different icons on different workspaces?
Can I have different icons on different workspaces?
I would like to have different icons on each workspace
The purpose is to have each workspace dedicated to its task, one workspace for office and related items, one workspace for graphics and multimedia, one workspace for internet and related items ...etc
Is that possible within MX or using third party apps?

Re: Can I have different icons on different workspaces?
Yes, you can do it ( It has been a while since I did that, so possibly something has changed - but it worked just fine in MX 21, I haven not tried it 23 )

Excellent tutorial, will read it carefully and test.
One question, I noted some comments on conflict with Caja and Nemo file managers. I use both regularly, more than Thunar.
Do you have any advice about that?
Thanks again

OK
I'll make a snap shot first before I start messing around
Someone on the thread said he had to reinstall. Better safe than sorry
Thanks again

Did not work for me, maybe I did something wrong

Ended up with no applications shortcuts, only shortcuts for all Home/folders, and drives
see picture

same on all workspaces
If you manage to get it working, let me know

Re: Can I have different icons on different workspaces?
I'm not good enough to tinker that deep like you.
If it was working for you, yes sure I would have tried, but if you cannot get it to work, I'm sure just gonna destroy my distro if I even think to try, so I won't try

In all case thanks a lot for the update, very much appreciated.
Re: Can I have different icons on different workspaces?
FWIW you can accomplish your objectives using either a tiling or stacking window manager (wm); xfce4 and lxqt are also capable of performing the work, but I'd stay away from the use of/ reliance on Desktops, which are really pretty much only a folder. The one(s) you choose probably will work best if they are ewmh compliant, (there are lots of pages on the subject). To accomplish the functions of workspace management wms tend to rely on keybindings (to invoke applications and functions) plus tailorable menu tools like rofi, dmenu, jgmenu and NO Desktop. I, personally, only use tilers (see signature block). Here are some docs that might get you started.

I have written 100+ pages on how to do this sort of thing using wms. You can find the details on my site at: https://eirenicon.org (check the knowledge-base out). All the stuff i freeand not tracked.
Happy trails.

Re: Can I have different icons on different workspaces?
I remembered the time I was using PCLinuxOS, The Full Monty edition had a special KDE desktop with virtual desktops, each with its own set of applications, and background (see pictures)

That was KDE 4
I don't know if the feature is still present in the current version
There is a tutorial on how to do that in KDE 5.20
https://itsfoss.community/t/how-to-add- ... -kde/11282
I'll probably try that on live MX KDE in a couple of days
Cheers
