Hello and
thanks for this nice version of Linux “Debian” (installed some weeks ago).
Started with Linux Debian for over 20 years ago, and I have on this PC 3 different SSDs with different distros of Linux.
VLC medial player, are able to display mp4-video (and ts-video) on Linux Mint #5-SSD, but not when I’m running Linux Mint #6 and MX-Linux (updated this day 23 of October, read Quick system INFO - file ) - screen’s black!
My problem is that only the VLC medial player, works with my media DVB-T PCI card.
It works on all 3 Linux distros with sound OK - but screen’s black for Linux Mint #6 and MX-Linux!
Tried to look for some missing library – But it wont’ work out well!
I can record one TV-program (on this MX-Linux) with this name:
<vlc-record-2024-10-23-18h35m34s-dvb-t___frequency=642000000-Watergate_ High Crimes In the White House.ts>
During recording (or not) – The screen is black an audio is OK!
And I can view it OK with Mplayer – But why not on VLC player?
Please – can one of you find out and solve this problem?
Best Regards

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: VLC medial player - unable to display mp4-video - screen’s black
Does going to vlc's Tools / Preferences / Inputs and Codecs and turning off the automatic hardware acceleration make any difference?
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Have you tried VLC --> Settings --> Video --> Video Output -> XVideo (XCB)?T-Sand wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2024 3:24 pm

Note to self and others: SysVinit is a good option. However if you run into problems try with systemd first. This applies to AppImages, Flatpaks, GitHub packages and even some Debian packages.

Thanks a lot to Stevo!
Turning of hardware acceleration works fine :)
Went to Tools / Preferences / Inputs and Codecs and turned off the automatic hardware acceleration!
