MX Linux 23.4 Xfce 64bit, LibreOffice version 7.4.7.2
When I installed MX Linux I chose ‘Australia’ for locale time etc.
LibreOffice Writer spell check didn’t work, researched, changed office settings to USA and it works.
But, I have a saved (LibreOffice) profile with auto corrections spellings etc that I've created over several years. I normally paste my profile over the ‘default’ one created upon first use of LibreOffice, after a fresh install of Linux Mint for example, and all is good.
(also note that USA and Australia have different spelling of many words such as tire vs tyre, surprize vs surprise etc)
When I do this (paste profile/overwrite) on MX Linux LibreOffice version, spell check stops functioning unless I go into tools, options, language settings, language and reset all to USA again at which point my special words and other customisations stop working once again. Either or situation.
I booted up Linux Mint 22 (latest version released several months ago in 2024) which is LibreOffice version 24.2.5.2 and it all works as it has for years (seems MX and LM are using a different versioning number system??).
I did a ‘default’ install of MX Linux and chose USA locale time etc and spell checker works but not my special words etc (profile). I removed all LibreOffice from MX and reinstalled the one in Debian backports but same issue.
How can I get the Linux Mint version or some other version of LibreOffice that might work? Without resorting to appimage flatpack or tar.gz etc etc.
Or is there some other fix to this issue?

Re: LibreOffice spellchecker not working
Hi, rawmx. It sounds like a problem with settings in LO, which admittedly are pretty complicated. I'm also running MX Linux 23.4 Xfce 64bit, LibreOffice version 7.4.7.2 with an Australian locale and the spellchecker works fine. You're welcome to private-message me to see if we can work out where the problem lies.

Maybe it helps to get package "hunspell-en-au" installed, which holds the English (Australia) dictionary for hunspellrawmx wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 10:26 pm I did a ‘default’ install of MX Linux and chose USA locale time etc and spell checker works but not my special words etc (profile). and perhaps also mythes-en-au the Australian English thesaurus
Code: Select all
sudo apt install hunspell-en-au mythes-en-au

Hi fehlix,
That seems to have done the trick. Now I have spell check and all my special words and customisations from my profile.
THANKS
