Audio devices randomly not detected

#1 Post by brinesharks »

I'm having an intermittent issue with sound/mic not being detected and the message 'No output or input devices found' when checking system settings > audio. There are no options to configure audio shown (option is greyed out). However, a reboot seems to fix things. The issue occurs randomly after I lock the screen but I can't think of anything else I'm doing that causes it. It happens very rarely - maybe once a fortnight. It seems to occur after the machine has been left on for a few days without a restart. I do updates via Discover as soon as they are available, but updates don't seem to trigger the issue.

Any suggestions on how I fault find the issue?

With all help requests, as per forum rules (which, if you haven't, please read), please share your full Quick System Info, do not edit.
If need be, you can do this using the LiveUSB, thanks.

I'm having the same problem with the Xfce desktop, it's been happening for some time, in my case straight after booting. Sometimes I have to reboot 2 or 3 times to get audio. I only joined in so you know it's not just KDE.

@DeJay @brinesharks
In order to track this down, both of you need to post the output from the QSI utility. The Quick System Info (QSI) utility is located in MX Tools and its output is automatically formatted for use here in the forum. Run the QSI utility, click “Copy for Forum” at the bottom and then just paste it here in your thread.

HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Also.. you need to get into separate topics, tacking on to someone else's is bad form.

@DeJay please start a topic of your own, thanks.

I didn't ask for help, just added the information that it is not just KDE it happens on! I was asked to post those details, so I did. Read my first post on the subject "I only joined in so you know it's not just KDE".

From here:

You can see that your motherboad's onboard sound card has a multitude of problems, Your best bet might be to just buy a new sound card for your desktop.
