Davinci Resolve

Been a long while, things have been working very well for me in MX23!

I was wondering if anyone tried to install DaVinci Resolve https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... nciresolve in MX-Linux (or perhaps in AVLinux?)

Officially Resolve only supports CentOS and Rocky Linux. Resolve downloads as a generic installer and there are instructions available for installing it on most other distros (Fedora, Mint, Ubuntu ...), and it does work but the installer needs a little "encouragement" in some cases. I found a few notes on installing in MX-Linux, but not much. I don't want to switch distros for just one program, but I'm not about to mess up my perfectly good workstation trying either. If you got it to install and have it working, I'd certainly like to know more about any challenges you faced and work arounds. Thanks!!!

In my opinion it's an absolute nightmare if you don't have nVidia graphics (I don't)

On top of that... if you install the AMD Repos with rocm and then remove the repo metapackage the Repo will still be there and Davinci Resolve's bundle does a horrible job of uninstalling itself if you have to give up which I have twice now. I think calling this absolute mess "linux supported" is ridiculous... No direct support for Debian, no direct support for high end AMD GPU's = bad joke

Does it show I have strong feelings about this? lol

Make sure you have a TimeShift right before you attempt this :-/

Revisiting this...

Curiosity got the better of me and I finally installed DR on my Windows 10 side... it was effortless and it liked my AMD GPU without any intervention at all. Anyway it is a top-tier NLE and loaded with Pro features, here's hoping they start listening to the concerns of Debian Users... Linux Users shouldn't have to miss out on this..

I used Make Resolve Deb and I have it installed, it sees both the onboard Graphics as well as my AMD 7700 Series Video Card. The app fires right up and runs, BUT I'm not sure how well it is running because no matter what type of media I import, they all look empty, no video or audio, and no image from JPEG's or PNG's.
Not really sure what is going on there?

Hi DigitalRodney, I have the same problem (laptop with NVidia 4090). If you have a solution, please post it here.
