CPU running too slowly

Help for Current Versions of MX
When asking for help, use Quick System Info from MX Tools. It will be properly formatted using the following steps.
1. Click on Quick System Info in MX Tools
2. Right click in your post and paste.

CPU running too slowly

My CPU is i5 and should run at 3.33Mhz ON ALL CORES.
Currently it is running at or below 1200Mhz.
I want it to run at designed speed.
Turbo speed is optional.
Just want it to run like it was designed to to.

Tried a few things to set it but do not understand the gobblygook many provide as a fix. None worked either.
They tell you to do this or that but do not tell you HOW nor give real world examples.
Any suggestions? Preferably those that INCLUDE a gui so I can get things done without issues?

The vast majority of the above is absolutely not needed. Has little to do with slow CPU frequency if any.

What are you using to measure your 1200MHz speed ?

Whether you believe the QSI is needed or not is not relevant. It is REQUIRED with every help request on this forum. Please familiarize yourself with the forum rules.

You don't want to run it always at max speed, just like you don't want to drive down the street at 20 kph with your car at 8000 rpm nonstop. (unless you're a teenager)

Like a car, that makes your computer run noisily, very hot, shortens its life, and runs down batteries in mobile machines. Every OS will slow down the CPU to idle when it's not under load to avoid this.

Try this in a terminal:

sudo apt install stress s-tui

s-tui
s-tui runs a sorta-gui in the terminal, and on the left you can switch from monitoring to stress, which will run your machine flat out. And you can watch your temperatures and maybe power use (W) also max out.

Mine at idle 800 <|> 1007 MHZ
Full on work 3800<|> 5300/5600 on all it's cpu's but only while the work is on then back down to idle, as stevo explained in previous post.

If you haven't ever replaced the thermal paste on this fourteen year old CPU, it might be being throttled by the bios to protect against overheating.

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Some of the Conkys we ship allow for realtime viewing of the CPU speeds, as do Stacer and certain taskbar widgets.

Excatly. You can see from my CPU that it runs at 2200Mhz at idle and will ramp up to 5083Mhz under load
but I have disabled boosting (for cooling purposes) in BIOS which locks my CPU to it's clock speed of 3400Mhz.
