I have GNOME Maps and MuseScore Studio installed, which were designed for GNOME, but the desktop I prefer to use is KDE. Every time, I have to try to open these apps three times before they'll actually open. Is there anything that can be done about that?

Maps takes approx 2 seconds to open on my machine in a VM, no issues.

I would suggest trying:

- opening in a terminal and see if there are error messages

Code: Select all

gapplication launch org.gnome.Maps %U

Also if you have preferences, save them and then uninstall, clear cache and then reinstall it and see if that helps.
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

How long are we talking?
You're running a dual core CPU and have used 57% of your RAM plus 13% of your swap.

Code: Select all

Partition:
  ID-1: / raw-size: 238.22 GiB size: 233.43 GiB (97.99%) used: 166.72 GiB (71.4%) fs: ext4
    dev: /dev/nvme0n1p2 maj-min: 259:2

Also noticed you have used 70% of your disk space.
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

Code: Select all

gapplication launch org.gnome.Maps %U
It didn't open with the command. It waited, then showed a message saying timeout expired.

Also, I forgot to mention this error message shows up during the initial attempts:

"Plasma Workspace: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

If you can't make Gnome Maps work, I suggest you try Marble Maps (KDE) or Google Earth

+1

I was also going to suggest MX-23.3 XFCE. It will probably run snappier on that dual core CPU.

Strangely, Marble shows me atrocious image resolution no matter how much I tweak the settings. GNOME Maps may be an annoyance to open, but it has perfect image quality.

MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing
