Thanks Steam

Just a quick note to say that I have replaced MX-23 on my HP EliteDesk PC with Windows 10. I did it because I was not able to play some games through the Steam client on MX. I tried to install the games on MX through the Steam client and also install Proton to be able to play the Windows games through Steam but the games would not run so I made a (some may say foolish) decision to replace MX with Windows 10. Thank you Steam.
Whilst looking through some stuff I found a CD/DVD of Windows 7, do you think it would be good to upgrade from Windows 10 to a better version (Windows 7)?

imo ... Stick with win 10 as long as you can. Personally, I would restrict win10 as much as possible for *everything* and then load a VM and install MX23 there and use MX as your daily driver for ALL and EVERYTHING you do. (The best method here is to dual boot, but if you dont want the hassle AND want both.. then a VM is pretty tight and easy to do. personally.. if you have to game there, I would run Win10 and then a VirtualBox with MX 23 for 100% everything else.)

The games should be working... (Or at least, any game that doesn't have mandatory invasive anti-cheat.) Before you played the game, did you click under Properties and change the Proton version? It will, by default, put you at the very latest version, and that is sometimes not the version you want at all.
For me, 7.0-5 and 5.0-10 worked amazingly with the version depending on how old the game was, but that was a bit ago. Some later versions than them may also work great.
As to Windows 7, I absolutely love that OS. If you need absolute 100% backwards compatibility, I would get a very powerful (for the time) gaming laptop with Windows 7 compatible drivers from the manufacturer and just use that. Nvidia Maxwell and up, and maybe even Kepler generation, should plow right through anything Windows 7 and 8.1 era. If you have workstation needs as well with WIndows 7, get a laptop with an old (but not too old) Quadro in it.
