Hello All!

MX19 is now EOl and I realize that there will be no more updates from the Debian side. I have two questions:

(1) Will Firefox and OnlyOffice (installed from MX Pkg. Installer) continue to update?
(2) I will continue using MX19 because I need a couple of Apps that require the QT4 libraries. That said, I will be adding another hard drive to my mini-tower to accommodate MX23 on this machine. Will I be able to boot into MX19 when needed?

TNX in advance.

Question #1 -- No
Question #2 -- Barring mechanical failure, Yes.

Since Firefox was being built by our own packaging team, the answer is NO, since they will no longer be building any more updates compatible with MX19.

Onlyoffice was not from MX repos. It is a proprietary program. You probably used MXPI >> Popular apps tab to install it. This just facilitated the adding of onlyoffice's own repo into your system.

you can check on that repo by running QSI or

Code: Select all

inxi -r
in terminal.

You will see it is not a mx repo.

Whether they will provide further updates is really up to them. You have to ask them.

If I recall correctly, they haven't changed their repo name for a long time (I think it still says jessie or squeeze!). That might mean they are continuing to update their program and just dump it into that same repo. Whether or not those updates will continue to be compatible with your MX19-buster system is another thing, if they have to make sure it's also compatible with newer Debian releases..

On the other hand, maybe they just haven't updated their program for a long time.....

MX19 is now EOl and I realize that there will be no more updates from the Debian side.
Correction: There will be no more updates from the MX side. There is a way to still get debian updates for 5 more years. It's called the Debian Extended Long Term Release and is a project managed by the Freexian.

https://wiki.debian.org/LTS/Extended

It's free for personal/small use. All you would need to do is to change your repos to point to freexians repositories and you will get updates till 2029.

https://www.freexian.com/lts/extended/d ... ended-lts/

Unlimited Powerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! (well for 5 more years anyway)

One thing to keep in mind though is only certain things will continue to be updated under Freexian as they have a limited amount of budget to work with, and they are funded by cloud companies and the like, so for example, server stuff like PHP libraries and OpenSSH will very probably be prioritized. Firefox may get updates too though. Maybe.

It should be compatible with EOL releases, since we're not actually building from source--that is impossible on all but the newer development Debian. We are putting the already built static binaries from Mozilla into deb files, along with some goodies to integrate them into the desktop.

For firefox, you can also add the firefox repository (I did that and it works into MX19)

You currently have two options to download firefox :
MX Binaries: https://mirror.freedif.org/MXLinux/repo ... f/firefox/
__or
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/download/thanks/

The MX version will work until the binaries get too far out and then it will stop.. but this all still works on FireFox 129 and MX 19 .

Same thing for Thunderbird.
MX https://mirror.freedif.org/MXLinux/repo ... underbird/
__ or
From the thunderbird website https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/download/

I have run directly from the FireFox and Thunderbird version in both 19 and 21.. if you need too, there is a slight difference on how profiles will work.. but it will work with some adjustments.

And of course... eventually ... all of these will complain and not work ;-/
