CinnaMX 2.1 "Rebirth" is now released and is based on MX Linux 23.3. Here's what's new:
Fixed an issue where the installer desktop icon does not appear on a live session.
Image files in Nemo (as root) now open with Xviewer by default.
Added the Pix image manager tool from Linux Mint. This is a convenient way to view the full title of each background and set it as the wallpaper from the right-click menu. This was done because Cinnamon's desktop background settings module does not reveal the full titles properly.
More than 60 new 4K wallpapers added. The original MX wallpapers are now hidden in a separate archive folder.
If you are running the original release, here is the collection of the new wallpapers. Upon clicking the link, go to File -> Download, then click the "Or continue with download only" link.

Two years ago, I created an MX respin called CinnaMX. It was a project which took MX Linux 21 XFCE and added the Cinnamon desktop. The project was long abandoned, but now, it has resurfaced with a complete rebuild. This time, CinnaMX 2.1 "Rebirth" is based on MX Linux 23.3. The XFCE desktop has been purged from the system and the Cinnamon desktop replaced it. This is now a clean and less bloated Cinnamon respin with a new set of applications. It has a whole new look, featuring a panel which resembles the Windows 11 style, replaces the workspace switcher with Expo, and uses a new GTK theme with some label modifications. The desktop background was created by myself using a non-licensed HiDPI image and is the original background from the original project. A new CinnaMX logo was added to the menu as well as neofetch.
Firefox is been retained as the default browser in this version, but users still have a choice of browsers they want to install. Included in this build are a few packages found in Linux Mint, including Pix, Xreader, Xviewer, and Xed. I do not claim any credit for the Linux Mint applications because they were developed by Clement LeFebvre for use in other Linux distributions. Also included are the Nemo file manager, MATE Calculator, Orage Calendar, GNOME Disks, GNOME Screenshot, GPaste, Rhythmbox, Celluloid, and the Tilix terminal, a terminal featured in Ubuntu Budgie.
This project is a community respin which is not endorsed by MX Linux and therefore, the MX Linux development team will not provide support for it. It is in no way affiliated with Linux Mint. This respin is as is; use at your own risk. But feel free to report bugs and apply fixes to the build as you see fit. Please enjoy and provide feedback for this project.
