Mouse's right click gets locked and is unresponsive

#1 Post by tut »

I just installed MX-23.3_x64 on my laptop a few days ago. However, it keeps locking up the right click on my wired mouse. I then realized clicking on the RMB on my touchpad unlocks the right click ability. Any way to diagnose why this keeps happening?

Re: Mouse's right click gets locked and is unresponsive

Assuming that you have already tested you mouse with a fresh battery or your computer with another mouse:
The 6.1.xxx kernel is known to be buggy. I think that you should use MXPI to install one of the Liquorix kernels that are available. As a starting point I suggest either the Liquorix 6.5.xxx or 6.6.xxx. After the install is complete, reboot, at the Grub screen select Advanced Options and then select the Liquorix kernel as the boot choice for this session. If the new kernel solves the problem, you can make the switch permanent with Boot Options in MX Tools.

Reason: grammar and typos
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Once installed it'll already become the default (by itself) and you don't need to select that specifically. (As it'll have a higher number than the current one).

I do it this way so that newbies also get introduced to Boot Options which they will need if the kernel upgrade doesn't workout and they want to roll back.

This laptop previously had Windows 10 and the mouse worked fine.

I installed `Liquorix 6.6.12-1 64 bit` and I guess I made it the default by typing `Y` in the installation process (I am a noob, lol). But I will test this for a few days and see if the issue does pop up again (and mark this topic as resolved). Thank you all.

That was just to confirm the installation :)

Have you tried all the available USB ports?
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

In case you'd like to turn back to (the good old) Synaptics :

Code: Select all

sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-touchpad-libinput.conf{,.old} ; sudo apt update ; sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics -y
Reboot (and try).

To revert back to libinput (for whatever reason) :

Code: Select all

sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-touchpad-libinput.conf.old /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-touchpad-libinput.conf ; sudo apt remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics -y
Reboot.

Yes!

That didn't help either.

Btw, even now writing this, the issue just popped up a few seconds ago. Just to be clear, this PC was on Windows 10 and the mouse was working. Other than switching to another distro, I don't know how to diagnose this further.
