Chrome is out of date in MX-23.2 Xfce

#1 Post by Mauser »

Please update Chrome. I received a message in Chrome that the current version of Chrome that I have is out of date. I have Version 122.0.6261.94 (Official Build) (64-bit). According to the MX updater there are no updates. According to Google version 124.0.6367.78 is the latest stable version for Linux. https://chromereleases.googleblog.com/

I am command line illiterate. I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list.

We do not package chrome at all. We install from the Google repository

Perhaps the repository has had some change. Will check on my system tonight

In the meantime I just installed the Flatpak version because I needed to pay my bills online. I usually wouldn't use Chrome but because of the blithering idiot CEO of my bank requires that I have third party cookies enabled because of their gross incompetence. I only use Chrome to go to my bank and no other sites due to security concerns.

I know the feeling. I keep Chrome around for the odd site as well.

your repo definition looks correct. not sure why its not updating.

maybe

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
apt policy google-chrome
and

Code: Select all

apt install google-chrome -s
output will provide some info.

After this command I get this.

Code: Select all

Mauser@mx:~
$ apt install google-chrome -s
NOTE: This is only a simulation!
apt needs root privileges for real execution.
Keep also in mind that locking is deactivated,
so don't depend on the relevance to the real current situation!
