Hi, I had to re- install MX 23 yesterday after a hard drive failure (my data was backed up, thankfully)
My Printer is a HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M277 dw.
It is on my LAN
Until yesterday it had been working as expected, but now after the re-install I cannot get the scanner to work, below is my quick system info

this is what I see when attempting to scan

Printing works fine, I have tried hp-setup as in previous distros but to no avail - is there any way to get the plug-in installed?

Any help accepted gratefully

I forgot to add, that the scanner is detected and identified

Image

I installed the HP gui, which gave me the HP Toolbox and tried to install the plug-in from there but it requires a root password ( I didn't set that up at install time) so I'm stuck at that stage now

Ok, I dug around and made a root password using:

Code: Select all

sudo passwd root
used this new password to complete the plug-in install and now the scanner works perfectly!!

Happy days

MX 23 defaults to sudo, so all that is required is your normal log in name and password. Alternatively, you could run:

Code: Select all

sudo hp-setup
in a terminal to get the plug in installed.

I had already tried those, and they failed.
The HP device manager only accepts a password for root - I created one and it worked
Thanks for your input

Hi,
I am in same boat. I cant get past the network coupling. I don't get the popup to install hp driver. Does this have something to do with HP's move to a subscription model?
I want to get my printer working with Mxlinux again.

We are better able to help individuals in their own threads. Nobody has the exact same computer and system running, even though you have the same printer.
