Any reason/feature for the new version? I'd probably stick with Debian Stable's stock version for such a core package.

2.7.2 is super bleeding-edge and there is a lot going on here (seems mainly related to arm and/or systemd, but still).

No specific reasons. Just for its considered "stable" by its maintainers.

It sure doesn't seem stable:

Code: Select all

[2024-04-09] Accepted cryptsetup 2:2.7.2-1 (source) into unstable (Guilhem Moulin)
[2024-03-10] Accepted cryptsetup 2:2.7.1-1 (source) into unstable (Guilhem Moulin)
[2024-03-07] Accepted cryptsetup 2:2.7.1-1+exp (source) into experimental (Guilhem Moulin)
[2024-03-04] Accepted cryptsetup 2:2.7.0-1+exp2 (source) into experimental (Guilhem Moulin)
[2024-02-26] Accepted cryptsetup 2:2.7.0-1 (source) into unstable (Guilhem Moulin)
[2024-02-26] Accepted cryptsetup 2:2.7.0-1+exp (source) into experimental (Guilhem Moulin)
We would have to test a lot of stuff for the 2.7.2 if this gets the go-ahead. Unless there is a problem with 2.6 it is probably best we wait for the Trixie cycle.

You're welcome to backport it yourself to see if it makes the magic smoke come out of your computer. :p
