CinnaMX 2 "Rebirth" released

#1 Post by Joseph DeGarmo »

IMPORTANT UPDATE: New update released. Refer to new topic regarding CinnaMX 2.1.

Two years ago, I created an MX respin called CinnaMX. It was a project which took MX Linux 21 XFCE and added the Cinnamon desktop. The project was long abandoned, but now, it has resurfaced with a complete rebuild. This time, CinnaMX 2 "Rebirth" is based on MX Linux 23.2. The XFCE desktop has been purged from the system and the Cinnamon desktop replaced it. This is now a clean and less bloated Cinnamon respin with a new set of applications. It has a whole new look, featuring a panel which resembles the Windows 11 style, replaces the workspace switcher with Expo, and uses a new GTK theme with some label modifications. The desktop background was created by myself using a non-licensed HiDPI image and is the original background from the original project. A new CinnaMX logo was added to the menu as well as neofetch.

Firefox is been retained as the default browser in this version, but users still have a choice of browsers they want to install. Included in this build are a few packages found in Linux Mint, including Xreader, Xviewer, and Xed. I do not claim any credit for the Linux Mint applications because they were developed by Clement LeFebvre for use in other Linux distributions. Also included are the Nemo file manager, MATE Calculator, Orage Calendar, GNOME Disks, GNOME Screenshot, GPaste, Rhythmbox, Celluloid, and the Tilix terminal, a terminal featured in Ubuntu Budgie.

This project is a community respin which is not endorsed by MX Linux and therefore, the MX Linux development team will not provide support for it. It is in no way affiliated with Linux Mint. This respin is as is; use at your own risk. But feel free to report bugs and apply fixes to the build as you see fit. Please enjoy and provide feedback for this project.

Hi
I have CinnaMX installed about 4 days ago
So far, all is going well
Congratulations
I have gone through the whole Cinnamon series on Distrowatch in the last 5 months..
As for my taste and personal preferences, CinnaMX is in the top 3.
I keep you informed < IF > things happen
Greetings. Tony45

FYI if you want the installer icon on the desktop, you should remove /etc/skel/.config/MX-Linux/xdg-check.

lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4 - MX-23
FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Thanks. I will apply this fix in the next update. CinnaMX 2.1 should be out soon with new 4K wallpapers and a couple of bugfixes.

Would like to install your CinnaMx 2, but have tried multiple times downloading iso and using mintstick and mx live usb maker but trying to install using MX Linux Installer, states " The installation media is corrupt ". Am I doing something wrong? Thank you.

Download the CinnaMX 2.iso.md5 file from the same Dropbox location and inspect its contents in a text editor. Verify with the md5sum program that the ISO file you are trying to write to USB has the same MD5 checksum, in this case "d3913961da4db835d41431524d9ab0d3". If the file you've downloaded has this MD5 checksum, there is an error in your USB creating process. If the checksum doesn't match, your ISO file is corrupt and you need to re-download it.

thanks DukeComposed, took a couple days and few downloads till I got a good file that matched the MD5 checksum, been a long time since I had that problem.
Also would like to mention that I'm using "nemo-share_5.8.2_amd64.deb". the share media files, I find it easier to share and see which files are being shared as the folders are visibly marked in nemo.
