Lutris issues, unable to install Epic Games - Nvidia driver updates

#1 Post by argonaut459 »

Good afternoon,
as i'm currently having a bit of difficulties on getting epic games run in lutris. I found that the just a few days ago installed nvidia driver via the MX nvidia driver install program did NOT suggest the current driver.
I have to admit, I'm not 100% I picked the right one on the Nvidia homepage, so please check for yourself.

Code: Select all

Neueste  = 525.147.05
Detected NVIDIA GPUs:

Linux X64 (AMD64/EM64T) Display Driver

Version:	550.54.14
Release Date:	2024.2.23
Operating System:	Linux 64-bit
Language:	English (US)
File Size:	292.65 MB
A suggest on the lutris forum is:
And check lutris git → install drivers in the Wiki to make sure you have the 32 bit drivers installed/ Look up what packages you need to install for vulkaninfo and fluidsynth and install these.
https://github.com/lutris/docs/blob/mas ... Drivers.md
sadly it doesn't say anything particular about debian, as far as I know we MXer should not mess with PPAs

Long story short, is there a reason for the 525 - 550 discrepancy that I'm as a noob are not aware of? Or may it be ok to update to the 550 driver version?
Thank you in advance.

525 is the latest in our repo. our tool only offers drives that are in our repo.

there is a -N switch you can use to pull from the nvidia developer repo. FMMV. YMMV

Code: Select all

sudo ddm-mx -i nvidia -N

I'll ask if its really necessary in the lutris forum.

don't know what fmmv means, I doubt you meant any of these

Oh thank G*d. I myself searched that acronym this morning and came across these two possibilities.
Finger Millet Mosaic Virus
Friends of Mosquitoes and Miscellaneous Vermin

Neither seemed very Linux friendly. :rofl:
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

Inserting obligatory reference to "Don't Break Debian" (or MX) here: https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian

Section 1.2 about installing directly from GPU Mfr files.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Yeah, I really don't like the things this guy on the lutris forum wants - or more likely what strangely enough- lutris is expecting.
I made a timeshift save before the changes, hopefully it works out in the end.

check this out:
https://forums.lutris.net/t/epic-and-ub ... rgonaut459
Did the command you stated. System said nvidia-driver-550 can’t be found.
I left that part out and did it anyway.
as anticipated, they were already the newest, but are assigned manually now.

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && sudo apt update && sudo apt install nvidia-driver-550 libvulkan1 libvulkan1:i386

libvulkan1 ist schon die neueste Version (1.3.250.0-1~mx23ahs).
libvulkan1 wurde als manuell installiert festgelegt.
libvulkan1:i386 ist schon die neueste Version (1.3.250.0-1~mx23ahs).
libvulkan1:i386 wurde als manuell installiert festgelegt.
selected the system winetricks
in the drop-down menu, wine-ge-8-26 was already selected. Nothing really else - except a Debian 8 - could be selected.
Vulkan ICD was already set to my GTX970

the linked command:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y wine64 wine32 libasound2-plugins:i386 libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 libdbus-1-3:i386 libsqlite3-0:i386
that did a few things I don’t like. see here:

Code: Select all

Die folgenden Pakete werden ENTFERNT:
  ffmpeg libavcodec59 libavcodec60 libavdevice60 libavfilter9 libavformat59 libavformat60
  libchromaprint1 libswresample4 vlc vlc-plugin-base vlc-plugin-video-output
Why the heck remove my ffmpeg and vlc ?? That’s something I can’t tolerate.
I’m really really baffled why lutris is making such a ruccus.
On a laptop (albeit with AMD CPU iGPU) it worked right out of the box.
On this machine with the last iteration of MX21 it was no issue adding EPIC games.

This is all getting a bit out of hand, however I sadly don’t know where the actual issue is right now.

Fingers crossed that it is working now - sadly it’ll take a bit till I can try it

alright,
as this whole ordeal messed up - ie deleted strawberry, vlc and ffmpeg and probably more.
Is it save to assume, that if I plug in a live usb, install and say preserve home it brings back the system to default, but kepps my vivaldi and few other personal stuff settings intact?
