MX-Updater has just updated ImageMagick on my laptop.
2024-02-23 08:20:14 upgrade libmagickwand-6.q16-6 amd64 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6+deb12u1
2024-02-23 08:20:14 upgrade imagemagick amd64 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6+deb12u1
2024-02-23 08:20:14 upgrade imagemagick-6.q16 amd64 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6+deb12u1
2024-02-23 08:20:13 upgrade libmagickcore-6.q16-6 amd64 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6+deb12u1
2024-02-23 08:20:13 upgrade imagemagick-6-common all 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6 8:6.9.11.60+dfsg-1.6+deb12u1

The problem is I don't have ImageMagick installed. It doesn't appear in my XFCE whisker menu. It is showing as not installed in MX Package Installer.

How can a package can be updated when it isn't showing as installed?

Right-click on an image file in thunar, open with.. there is imagemagick.

Why and how, I don't know.

ImageMagick is a CLI program, so like lots of others won't appear in the menu.

Eadwine and Chris - Thanks for the quick replies. I wrongly assumed it was an image editor with a GUI. Maybe because I'd seen it in the past as an 'Open with' option in Thunar.

The problem is I don't have ImageMagick installed. It doesn't appear in my XFCE whisker menu. It is showing as not installed in MX Package Installer.

How can a package can be updated when it isn't showing as installed?
I don't know why you cannot see ImageMagick as installed on the MXPI ("Enabled Repos" tab). On my test MX-23.2 Xfce installation, updated today, 23 February 2024, I can clearly see it is installed and updated.

In your Post #1 you listed five ImageMagic packages, three are for "imagemagick..." and two are for "libmagick..." as shown in the below two screenshots respectively.

This shows the three "imagemagick..." packages as installed:
MXPI_imagemagick_listing.jpg

This shows the two "libmagick..." packages as installed (note that for these two packages to be shown the "Hide library and developer packages" must be disabled (unchecked) as shown in the lower-right of the screenshot):
MXPI_libmagick_listing.jpg

If you cannot see those five packages then perhaps you should give more information on exactly how you are viewing the MX Package Installer (MXPI). Perhaps a screenshot with "imagemagick" in the MXPI search field and the text scrolled to where "imagemagick" should appear. Are they shown in the Synaptic installer?

Another test you can do to see if ImageMagick is installed is to run the below command in the Terminal. If ImageMagick is indeed installed then it will output a version number, etc.:

Code: Select all

convert -version
