AVL-MXe 23.1 keybindings in Terminology

#1 Post by alextone »

This is going to sound really dumb, but I can't figure it out at the moment.

I use keybindings wherever I can, and in Terminology probably most of all, with two exceptions.

I cannot highlight text, with the usually standard terminal input of Ctrl+Shift+C, or Ctrl+Insert, with the intention of pasting that text somewhere else. The paste command doesn't work either. (Ctrl+Shift+V)

There's nothing in the settings list to imply these commands are recognized, but bind -p shows me the bindings are present.

I've scoured the interlink for Terminology rumours and whispers of standard keybindings not working, but if they're not working for others, they're keeping it quiet.

EDIT: The keys don't work in xterm either. Pressing Ctrl+Shift+C acts the same as Ctrl+C and stops anything on the CLI, in both apps.

AVL-MXe 23.1 with the now standard enlightenment Desktop.

EDIT: Ignore this. I'll investigate further. It's the same behaviour in two other terminals i've installed and tried.

hm, I think i saw a menu for that in in the Enlightenment settings, Section INPUT or similar. There was a menu called keybindings. I think. And if I understood that menu right/correct, it listed the keybindings and the actions they would provide in different programs/sections of Enlightenment. But I could be wrong, the total Enlightenment Newbie I am. ;)

I've been through the settings, particularly the bindings. I've also investigated a lot more this afternoon, and it seems to be more complicated than just using Shift + Left/Right (an example) to highlight text and copy it, by nature of the structure of a terminal, and its relationship with X, or Wayland.

I tested some things on Debian testing and XFCE: my findings: text selection with Shift and arrows (in xfce-terminal, terminology and xterm) => impossible, SHIFT + left arrow makes a "D", + right arrow a "C".
What works is "Ctrl+Shift+C" and "Ctrl+Shift+V" and "Shift+INSERT" when text is marked with the mouse. Works on terminology and xfce-terminal, xterm refuses that too.
